sometimes things just can't help but work out

dear bloog,

skipped church today. i know, i know. you don't even have to say it. the best excuse i could come up with was, i was consumed with the past week's exhaustion and couldn't hear my iphone's alarm because the battery died overnight, thus rendering me wakeless. sounds legit enough, yeah? i'll make an appt with a mac genius this week to get it checked out just in case.

now normally, if i was back home, i would just go to evening service when/if my iphone caused said church absence, but sadly, evenings are not an option at journey in nashville. and seeing as how church-hopping is one of the biggest no-no's a christian could ever think about doing (dont even think about thinking about it), that option is out the window.

but dont worry- i've already repented. how? i'm googling help groups for church hooky players anonymous, as we speak (type). see, problem solved.

although, i suppose listening to journey's podcast would do just fine as well... hmm. but then again, my download of House episode 18 is almost finished. and if i'm honest, i'd much rather watch that. i mean, it is in HD. dr. hadley in HD? yes, please.

oh wait- what's that? fact: journey doesn't post sunday podcasts til midweek.

win-win.

wondering... for the most part.

there are times when you're feeling pretty good about life. things aren't too shabby. you're staying healthy. bills are getting paid on time. cars running good. drama amongst friends hasn't reared its ugly face in your general direction any more than the usual. so far so good, right? but then, a single abrupt event can drastically change everything in an instant. a moment's notice.

ugh. great.

then, there are times when you think life isn't too shabby. you assume it isn't, really. but in an underlying way, you can feel change about to happen. you can sense it. in a sense. (?). almost predicting it's exact arrival.

so, my question is- which situation is more preferred?
(i.e. not as scary, better kinda-sorta, somewhat less sucky than the other.)

living in ignorance?

or...

realizing that after waiting around in anticipation, all that time has to offer you is a sucker punch in the throat.

if/when you figure it out... don't tell me.

Hello from the road!
Currently sitting in my hotel room near Canton, OH trying to regain mobility after a pretty rough show yesterday.
I seriously think I sweat off at least 5lbs on stage.
But it was so fun to play again.
Also- seeing Tait as a Newsboy was just weird.

I wanted to get on and let you know about the giveaway that Allister is doing on her blog today!

We've included short interviews about how we got started, what inspires us, and what we'd like to accomplish in the world of creating.

The Lost Get Found

A couple of months ago, my buddy Albert and I were asked by our friend Britt Nicole (EMI CMG/Sparrow) to shoot and record a behind-the-song video for her newly released single called "The Lost Get Found."
Her new album (which sounds INCREDIBLE) is hitting stores & iTunes August 11th, and this single is the title track.
This was my first attempt at shooting video and pretty much doing anything video related.

For all of you gear geeks like me out there, here are the video details:

Shot entirely in HD on a Canon EOS 5d Mk II, mostly with a 50mm f/1.8 lens with wider B-roll frames shot on a 24-70mm f/2.8L.
ISO didn't get above 400 (because of my loathe for graininess), white balance was set to auto, and tylenol was readily available to relieve hand cramps from manual focusing for the entirety of the shoot.
AB800 modeling lamp set to full power, through a large softbox, above on camera right.
ABR800 modeling lamp set to full power, through moon unit, camera left in back corner for subtle backlight.
The location used was in the lounge area at Robert Marvin's recording studio in Brentwood, TN.
Recorded at 30fps, along with all audio taken straight off the Canon 5d in post.
Direction & editing by Albert Kiteck in Adobe After Effects.
Shot by Ruben Juarez.

[behind the scenes]

Had the privilege of working on a photoshoot with recording artist "Chasen" earlier this week...

They are good-looking Christian boys with southern charm and adventurous attitudes just like my own. This is just the first of some future shoots with @INOrecords

Here's some behind the scenes footage from our day.......
we got a little dirty. ;)

(special thanks to the stylists/assistants/creative team---without their help this shoot wouldn't have been what it was!)

sweet tea & stress relief

got a spontaneous haircut @ 2am last night by allister...
had to have been one of the most painful experiences of my life. (literally)

but i love the way it came out!
totally worth it & she did a great job :)

fact: i've had a serious music itch lately.

a tingly annoyance that benadryl simply cannot remedy.
was talking to a new friend at a bbq/wine party last night about how inspiration & creativity come in waves/seasons.
often times, you'll be on a kick and pump out project after project... whether it be music, photography, painting, writing, designing, etc.
it'll be like a well that keeps giving and you don't even have the energy or resources to contain the overflow.
such an amazing feeling.
but then other times, your once evergiving well will be completely dried out. dull. drab. bleh.
nothing inspires. life is monochrome.

fortunately, using photography as a creative outlet has sustained me in more ways than one during this season, and i'm so amazingly blessed to be able to do what i love.
it's my passion.
on the other hand, music has definitely been lacking, and it's something i really need to dive back into head first.

creativity aside--it's been my experience that playing on stage is a big stress reliever too.
and if you can muster up the distorted facial expressions while flexing your abs hard enough to squeal out those seemingly unattainable high falsetto/girly harmonies above high C, then it's a good calorie burner as well.
-or-
just sweating from embarrassment after failing to sing those high harmonies in key burns calories too.

luckily, we're flying out saturday morning to play a radio conference in the south somewhere.
bring on the sweet tea & stress relief.
this will be only one of the tiny handful of shows this summer...
guess you can't hide from a failing economy.
